How this issue was made. Built by scripts/digest.py from live public Reddit data (Arctic Shift archive API). The prototype's on-box AI (Qwen2.5-3B) drafted the summaries. An editor then rewrote and checked every line against the source posts and their top replies. Claims made by individual posters are attributed to them, not presented as fact.

Swap returns and forced INAD returns

4 source threads · 112 comments

What's happening. On Depop, a seller says a returned shirt came back with a ruined logo and a different, bumpy knit. Depop's check found no issue. The top replies (56 and 24 upvotes) say it looks like the buyer kept the original and sent back a knock-off [1]. An eBay seller's Pokémon game was returned right away. Replies warn to check it's the same cartridge, and point out that an INAD return has to be accepted anyway, so listing photos must show the true condition [2]. Another eBay seller with returns turned off notes that INAD claims get around that setting. Replies: refund the item price only, and don't charge a restocking fee, because that's against eBay policy [3]. On INR: if you don't refund and eBay steps in, the case closes "without seller resolution", and a few of those can push an account below standard [4].

Why it matters. A swap return costs you the item and two shipping legs. Unresolved cases also count against your seller metrics, even for a $2 sale.

Do this week. Before shipping anything you'd hate to lose, photograph identifying details (tags, serials, flaws), and film the unboxing of every return. For small INR claims on eBay, refund before eBay steps in so you don't take a case strike.

Depop's shipping change and carrier surprise fees

3 source threads · 231 comments

What's happening. Depop sellers are reacting to an email saying they can no longer arrange their own shipping (90 comments) [1]. Sellers who used their own labels and insurance for high-value items are worried. One says they sell items over $300 and expects to lose seller protection on them. Others say the auto-selected package weights are inaccurate, and in some categories only large weight tiers are offered. The exact terms are in Depop's email, which wasn't posted. Separately, a reseller got a $45 FedEx 'irregular packaging' fee for putting a poly bag over a box. He says FedEx terms treat poly-bagged parcels over 18" long, 13" on the second side or 5" high as irregular [2]. On eBay, a buyer says a seller's paper-wrapped flat-rate box was opened by USPS and charged extra postage [3].

Why it matters. Label surprises come straight out of margin. A platform-forced label also changes who covers a lost or damaged high-value parcel.

Do this week. Depop sellers: read the actual email and Depop's terms on protection limits before your next high-value listing, and check each listing's weight tier. Ship FedEx in plain cardboard only, and never reuse a flat-rate box for a different service.

Depop glitches: sold search gone, payouts slow

3 source threads · 35 comments

What's happening. Several Depop sellers with boosted shops say the 'Sold Item Search' they use for pricing disappeared this week [1][2]. One reply says it can be found under the menu in settings, others say it's gone; Depop hasn't explained either way. Sellers are also reporting slow bank transfers after the holiday weekend [3]. One says their balance still wasn't available 10 days after a sale. Another says orders delivered on October 7 still show 'shipped', so the funds are held, and Depop told them to wait 10 days.

Why it matters. Without sold comps, pricing turns into guesswork. Cash stuck in a balance slows down your next sourcing run.

Do this week. Save screenshots of sold comps for your main categories now, and use eBay's sold listings as a backup source. If a payout is late, check whether the order shows 'delivered': if tracking never updated, that's usually what's holding the funds.

Disputes and review fights over condition

3 source threads · 223 comments

What's happening. The busiest thread of the window (100 comments): a Depop buyer received 'brand new' leggings with a bleach stain. The seller agreed to a refund only if the buyer paid return shipping, so the buyer won a PayPal dispute and kept the item, and the seller left a 1-star review [1]. Commenters split, and several point out that Depop in Canada runs on PayPal, so the dispute route differs by country. In another thread, a buyer asks whether to leave a bad review for a figurine that broke in transit. The top replies (491 upvotes) say to open a case for a refund instead, and that broken-in-transit almost always means the packaging was at fault [2]. A Depop seller also asks how to head off a buyer's-remorse dispute over a colour shade [3].

Why it matters. Not disclosing a flaw, or haggling over who pays return shipping, can lose you the item, the money and your rating all at once.

Do this week. Photograph and list every flaw. When a 'not as described' complaint is legitimate, cover the return label rather than pushing the buyer into a dispute. Pack fragile items so nothing moves inside the box.
